ChibokChibok girls: We have no ‘solid evidence’ of location – US govt
The hope of rescuing the over 200 students of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, abducted by the deadly Boko Haram sect, appears dim, as the United States of America yesterday disclosed that its security operatives are yet to get ‘solid evidence’ on the exact location of the girls.
The US Defence Secretary, Chuck Hagel, disclosed this yesterday in an interview monitored on the Cable News Network (CNN), adding that the US security forces had leads but could not ascertain the current location of the kidnapped girls.
The CNN also quoted another defence official, saying: “There is somewhat credible information that has materialised over the past couple of weeks that the girls seized in April may have been broken up, and moved across the Nigerian border, perhaps to Chad.”
The unnamed official revealed that there had been no verified photos or satellite images that might expose a location.
The US had, last week, deployed 80 military personnel to Chad to help in the search, while supporting with intelligence, surveillance and aircraft missions.
