If you were in real danger today and made a desperate call to a friend for help, there is 80% chance you’ll get a very good laugh at, an ‘A-P-R-I-L F-O-O-L scream, before the line possible goes dead! You may have to break down and shed real tears before you are taken very seriously. Nobody wants to be the fool on a fools day.
April 1 is named FOOL’S DAY, after Steve April. He was born on 1st April 1579. He did 105 businesses in his lifetime. He lost all his father’s assets, and so everyone started calling him father of the fools. At 19, he married a 61-year-old woman who divorced him after a year because of his foolishness.
Today in ‘trending’, we once again look at our social media and see how the April Fool pranks have fared.
Inibu Thomas posted this one on his facebook wall…
Akpos told Ekaette, he will marry her, took her to his parents and relatives. Once they got back home, he looked at her straight to the eye and shouted APRIL FOOOOOL.
@vinylpod was very reluctant to believe our story yesterday on Micheal Jackson. She wrote on twitter… Michael Jackson has a new album coming out. Please please please let this be an #AprilFool
@vinylpod it’s no April Fool, this is for real.
@Johnedw96 cautioned those who played pranks of death on their grandparents… Please don’t make some stupid jokes to your grand parents, April 1st might be their last day.
I don’t usually find that funny either.
History helps us recall two April Fool hoaxes that took on the world.
A barge towing a giant iceberg appeared in Sydney Harbor in April 1978. Dick Smith, a local adventurer and millionaire businessman, had been loudly promoting his scheme to tow an iceberg from Antarctica, saying he was going to carve the berg into small ice cubes, which he would sell to the public for ten cents each. These cubes, fresh from the pure waters of Antarctica, were promised to improve the flavour of any drink they cooled.
Local radio stations provided blow-by-blow coverage of the scene, but when it started to rain the firefighting foam and shaving cream the berg was really made of washed away, uncovering the white plastic sheets beneath.
During an interview on BBC Radio 2, on the morning of 1 April 1976, the astronomer Patrick Moore announced that at 9:47 AM a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event was going to take place. The planet Pluto would pass behind Jupiter, temporarily causing a gravitational alignment that would reduce the Earth’s own gravity. Moore told his listeners that if they jumped in the air at the exact moment this planetary alignment occurred, they would experience a strange floating sensation.
The BBC received hundreds of phone calls from listeners claiming to have felt the sensation. One woman even reported she and her 11 friends had risen from their chairs and floated around the room.
I know every year, it gets more difficult to succesfully pull a fool’s day’s prank but do give it a try.
Finally if you believed that story of Steve April and the father of foolishness (credit Kokote Ajebor), then you can also believe the Sun once went on a date with Jupiter hehehehe. Happy Fools day.
